At Blackburn, Battrick and his partner, Margaret Brown, were convicted of using a vehicle with defective brakes

and with dangerous parts.
Battrick was fined £325, and Brown was given an absolute discharge. They were each ordered to pay £15 towards the cost of the prosecution.
At Clitheroe, Battrick admitted using a vehicle with dangerous parts and was convicted of using a second vehicle with defective brakes.
He was ruled £250, with £60 prosecution costs, and his driving licence was endorsed with three penalty points.
