Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• At the Vehicle Bodybuilders and Repairers Association annual conferena in Blackpool earlier this month, Bob McCartney, director-general of the VBRA, called on all bodybuilders to prepare for 1992 and the single European market.

His message was: -1992 is an opportunity to take the high standards we currently uphold to the wider European market. As repairers approach the successful completion of our standards programme. I would ask all our members to put high standards and quality workmanship first, and act to introduce BS5750 and its international equivalent, IS009000, into theircompanies as soon as possible."

McCartney's view was shared by Lord Strathcarron, who told the conference: "The embracing of the International Standard IS009000 by our bodybuilder members in 1989 can be seen as an indication that they also wish to take the route to guaranteed standards . . to formally adopt IS009000 will leave them in a far stronger position to meet the challenges, opportunities and profit potential presented when the European trade barriers come down in 1992."

Strathcarron concluded his speech with a pledge that the VBRA will raise its profile this year with further emphasis on standards and European links.
