Multi-choice on Twin Decks
II Gray & Adams' Twin Deck reefer trailer for UK distribution work, seen at last week's IRTE exhibition and currently under evaluation by customers, offers a choice of ambient, chilled or freezing temperatures in either compartment.
It is constructed of G&A's own 55mm-thick, one-piece insulated sandwich panelling with a polyester interior and stove-enamelled white alloy exterior.
Using air-suspended SAF axles on a 2,290mm extrawide track, the 385/65 22.2 wide singles are offset to minimise wheelbox intrusion into its 2,460mm inner width.
Internal deck heights are 1,830mm within its 5.2m overall height and, with a 12.2m internal length, the twin decks will accommodate a total of 75 roll cages.
Having recently become a Carrier dealer, Gray & Adams has fitted its latest EuroPhoenix freezer unit with remote dual evaporators. Its individual temperature controls are sited on the front bulkhead.
The dual set of self-sealing rear doors have an elevating top section, supported on gas struts and spring assisted, with double barn-type doors below. This allows the upper deck to be off-loaded while maintaining its pre-set condition in the compartment below, yet maintaining temperatures in excess of minus 20°C throughout.
Both sets of doors are spring assisted with locking devices to prevent accidental closure. The two floors are served by a 1,500kg Ratcliffe two-tier taillift with a 1,450mm platform.
Hinged safety gates and pallets stops are fitted, and an audible device warns of its operation. The air-suspension has a raise/lower device with a lock-up jacking system for changing wheels.
No unladen weights are given, but G & A offers a choice of tandem or triaxles for 38-tonne operation.
Load-sensing spring brakes, Groenveldt automatic Lubrication and front storage lockers are fitted as standard.
