Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE DISTRIBUTION activities of the National Freight Consortium are to be reorganised later this year as a direct result of the takeover of SPD last January.

A new NFC distribution group will be formed from October 7, at the beginning of the new financial year, and will be run by SPD managing director Ron Irons, the former BRS Western managing director who has run SPD since it was bought from Unilever.

Within the new group, SPD will take over the distribution activities for customers on a shared basis and are provided at present by SPD and British Road Services; WI) Contract Distribution will provide all dedicated distribution services run at present by SPD and BRS.

GDS. the BRS group sub sidiary which specialises in confectionery distribution, will also be part of the group, but National Carriers Contract Services, NFC's other distribution specialist, will remain part of the recently created Special Services Group.

The BRS group will remain NFC's biggest division, but will concentrate on contract hire, truck and trailer rental, and vehicle engineering.

Its general haulage, full year contracted haulage, fullload haulage, and bulk warehousing (without such services as stock control) will be grouped into a new subgroup, BRS Freight Management.

The restructure follows moves earlier this year to integrate the parallel activities of SPD and BRS, and the companies' joint marketing director, Richard Lovell, told CAI that it will strengthen NFC's distribution resources..
