Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IVECO has revised the specifications of its top weight onroad tractive unit range, dropping Deutz air cooled engines entirely and standardising on some components from the new Turhostar models (CM, September 8, 1984).

In the UK, !veal now offers three right-hand drive, 38-tonne gcw tractive units, two 4x2s (the 190.30 and 190.38) and a 6X2 (the 220.30). The 190.29 Deutzpowered tractor is no longer available, and it is now clear that production of this model ceased at Iveco's Turin factory last year.

The 190.30 and 220.30 models are powered by the 13.8 litre, in-line six-cylinder Fiat, liquid cooled engine designated 8210.22 which is rated at 223kW (2994), net to the DIN standard at 2,00Orprn.

The 190.38 is fitted with a new, de-speeded variant of the 17-litre, V8, 8280.22 Fiat engine.

Its maximum net power rating stays at 280kW (381hp), to the EEC 80/1269 standard, but now this is developed at 1,800rprn rather than at 1,900rpm.

Maximum torque speed has gone down too, from 1,200 to 1,100rpm though the peak torque figure of 1,700Nm (1,250 lbft) is unchanged.

The new 380hp variant, designated 8280.22R, uses the same Bosch fuel injection equipment and twin KKK turbo-chargers as the 420hp 8280.22S Turbostar engine and is essentially version of it.

All the latest 38-tonne Iveco tractive units have direct top, Fuller 12-speed constant mesh gearboxes, the RT11613 on the 300hp models and the RT 14613 behind the higher torque, V8 engine.

They also share the U180E Rockwell CVC single reduction drive axle which is built at Cameri, Italy (CM April 27) and already used in the Turbostar models.

All the latest Iveco tractive units have 430min (17in) diameter, single plate clutches with diaphragm springs. A 16.3in clutch with helical springs is no longer used.

Fifth wheel mounting flitches to suit 32.5 or 38 tonne gcw plating in Britain are available for the 190.38 and 190.30.

Iveco UK still has no firm plans to introduce right-hand drive Turbostar 420hp models but expects to sell 30-40 left hand drive Turbostars here this year. A right-hand drive 220.38 is reported to be "on the way" and it is likely that the 165.24, lightweight tractive unit will soon undergo re-engineering similar to that applied to the 300 and 380hp tractors.
