A man who spends more than half his working day in a car driving seat is three times more likely to suffer back trouble than the average worker, says the AA magazine, Drive. If that is the case, bus and lorry drivers must be nearly crippled.
The AA and the Backpain Association have sponsored preliminary research to design a practicable and comfortable driving seat "that can be used safely for long periods."
I remember trying a variety of Bostrom seats in company with a doctor who was a specialist in motoring medicine. He was much fatter than me and seats that suited me he found uncomfortable and vice-versa.
Perhaps the answer is a State-produced standard-sized driver. It may yet come.
