It's an ill wind. . and on this occasion the soaring price of meat is giving not only the fish industry but also the fish transport business a boost.

Ken Cook, m.d. of Midlands British Road Services, says that the Midlands is now a "boom centre for the fish industry". He should know, because his company runs a nightly service, with over 100 tons of fresh fish, from Grimsby to Midlands towns, and the distribution end delivers to a thousand outlets.

Boldly, Ken claims that the service is unique in Western Europe. Says he: "It is more than doubtful that the French housewife living in Paris or indeed the German housewife living in Frankfurt is able to buy such fresh fish."
