Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN air diffuser which is adjustable over the whole range from full air flow to complete shut-off has been produced by Richard Crittall and Co., Ltd., 1q Great Portland Street, London, W.I. Known as the Stylovent Mark II it retains the performance of the Stylovent flat-ring model, but is of improved appearance.

Several sizes are provided and each is arranged for either exposed or flush mounting. They are designed for noiseless admission or extraction, and draughtless even distribution of large volumes of air. They permit the size of the duct to be decreased, with correspondingly high air speeds.

The diffuser embodies a throat-piece.

to which are fixed four annular plates of decreasing diameter. A coned skirt is joined to the outer perimeter of each plate, and the plates are spaced in rela

tion to each other so as to provide the correct zone of air distribution.

To control the volume, sleeves of diminishing diameter, corresponding with the throat-piece and the annular plates, are interconnected by a bearer bar. This is raised or lowered by a threaded spindle worked by a knob at the bottom. The sleeves form splitter vanes sliding inside the-throat-piece, and on the knob being turned they move up or down, gradually opening or closing the apertures between the .annular plates.

To provide cut-off-and ensure smooth operation of the volumetric control. cushioning felt is fitted to the sliding surface of the main sleeve.
