• CAPT. G. A. P. UPgroN has been elected chairman of the Western Area of the Road Haulage Association.
MR. G. TAYLOR, A.M.1NST.P.C., has become cleansing and salvage inspector at Stoke-on-Trent. He was formerly at Rochdale.
MR. G. ARMSTRONG, general manager of Accrington Transport Department, has been offered a similar post with the Exeter undertaking.
Ma. T. A. P. BAR1LETT, chief administrative assistant in East Ham Cleansing Department, has been appointed deputy cleansing superintendent.
MR. J. NEWTON has been appointed a member of the Transport Users Consultative Committee for the north-western area. He represents labour.
MR. H. L. WALKER has been reappointed chairman of the Northern Area of the Road Haulage Association. MR. R. CLIFFORD, MR. H. LINCOLN and MR. E. H. PATTERSON are vice-chairmen.
Ma. F. N. WHITE has been elected chairman of the Portsmouth and District Centre of the Institute of Traffic Administration. The vice-chairman is MR. L. H. Roams; secretary, MR. W. J. AYLWARD, and treasurer, MR. G. A, PARK.
CLI R. A. GELDER Was installed as president at the annual convention of the National Tyre Distributors Association, at Eastbourne. Two American, visitors. MR. DAVID R. Lr.Hmaisi, president of the National Association of Independent Tyre Dealers Associations, and MR. ASHBY L. LEE:1H, treasurer of that body, were present at the convention.
MR. W, MORTON who, as reported in "The Commercial Motor" on May 4, has been acting as secretary ot the East Midland Area of the Road Haulage Association, has been confirmed,in that appointment. He succeeds Mr. L. W. Thurman, who has resigned. Mr. Morton joined the Association in May, 1947, and a year later was appointed. area licensing officer.
MR. G..E. BEHARRELL, deputy chairman and managing director of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., has been elected president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders in succession to MR. W. LYONS, chairman and managing director of Jaguar Cars, Ltd, Mr, Lyons has become deputy president. MR. H. SPURRIER, managing director of Leyland Motors, Ltd., continues as vice-president and is joined in that office by SIR JOHN BLACK, deputy chairman and managing director of the Standard Motor Co., Ltd. MR. W. R. BLACK, managing director of Park Royal Vehicles, Ltd., continues as treasurer.
