Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MOW available as an item of equipment for the David 1 "Brown tractor, made by David Brown Tractors, Ltd., Meltham, near Huddersfield, is a power-fake-off and pulley attachment, which much increases the scope of the machine, It is supplied for use when an hydraulic unit is not required.

Designed on the robust lines which characterize the whole tractor, the unit is a self-contained auxiliary which can be attached or dismounted in a few minutes without the exercise of much mechanical skill. All the components are of generous proportions, and heat-treated alloy steels are used both tor the spur reduction gears and for the bevels which afford the right-angle drive to the pulley. The safety factor of the design is said to be high and the maker certainly has a reputation for first-class gears.

The control lever, as can be seen from fly accompanying picture, is conveniently placed. It has three positions: neutral, power-take-off driven, and take-off and pulley both driven. Worthy of comment is the pulley mounting, as it incorporates a substantial " snout " which supports the bearing at the point of maximum loading, thus avoiding the stress, often resulting in fatigue, that obtains in shafts subjected to combined bending and twisting moments. At the same time it keeps the bearing loading low.

A standard spline has been adopted for the take-off shaft extension to avoid the need for special couplings when using existing implements, 'Lubrication arrangements are simple and oil leakage has been virtually eliminated.

The power-take-off runs at 555 r.p.m. and the pulley at 960 r.p.m. with a governed engine speed of 1,300 r.p.m. The pulley is 6 ins, wide and 10 ins, in diameter, which gives a belt speed of 2,500 ft. per min.
