Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

UP to the outbreak of hostilities, Bryce fuel-injection equipment for compression-ignition engines was made by Bryce, Ltd., at Hackbridge, Surrey. Wyndham Hewitt, Ltd,, with which is associated, Lagonda Motors, has now formed a subsidiary company, Bryce Fuel Injection, Ltd., with headquarters at the Lagonda Works, at Staines.

The new concern has taken over the whole of the assets of the fuel-injectionequipment business, including all the special plant, stock, goodwill, patents and designs. The directors of the concern are Messrs. R. G. Watney, S. A. Lane, G. W. A. Green, and S. R. Williams, the third and fourth of whom have been responsible, respectively, for the technical and commercial development of the equipment at Hackbridge.

In general, the policy is to continue the manufacture of the existing range of products and to develop recent inventions, such as the balanced element pump, the hydraulic governor and the resistance-type delivery valve. Multi-element pumps of unit construction, embodying camshafts, and having a 10 nirn, stroke, are made, with the following bore dimensions in mm.:-5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

For the camshaft-type pumps, the new hydraulic governor which is being developed will be of particular interest, because its use affords an equal power for actuating the rack rod over the whole range of engine speed, thus giving greater accuracy of control. The familiar centrifugal type of governor will also be continued in production.

Another new design is the self-centring atomizer, which has the needle guide located away from the atomizer 'tip, thus giving cooler operating con ditions for the atomizer needle. A feature of the design is that the assembly can easily be adjusted when any replacement parts are installed, machining of the existing details not being needed for correct functioning.

In a tour. of the various shops devoted to injection-equipment manufacture, we noticed the battery of special Machines which have been brought from Hackbridge. Many of them are being constructed solely for machining pump and atomizer details, and include equipment for ensuring the particular standard of accuracy which is essential in this class of work. A separate section is devoted to all lapping operations, and, another to experimental, work.
