Partek Cargotec will be launching a unique telemetry-based system of monitoring the weight of containers as they're mounted on the hook-lift ready for haulage. When demountable containers are being lifted and carried, as is common for waste management and recycling work, the actual weight is often unknown. With this system, developed and manufactured by Multilift and Telemotion, accurate data is sent direct to the driver in the cab and to the operator's office-based PC or laptop. It's also recorded for future use.

Shell UK will be offering a limited number of free oil analyses on its stand at the NEC. If you're an operator with a Euro-3eng ined truck and are worried about the impact of the latest low-emission diesel technology on your oil drain intervals -and whether it's OK to use a Euro-2-spec lubricant in a Euro-3 engine this could be just what you need. Shell will provide a free one-off oil analysis for up to 200 operators running Euro-3 engined vehicles. On arrival at the Shell stand prospective candidates will be given a sampling container and instructions on how and when to take oil from their vehicles. Post it back to Shell UK using the pre-addressed labels and within 10 working days you'll receive a report on the condition of the oil and other comments on the engine it came from, including the presence of any worn metals.

Michelin and Bridgestone will both launch new trailer tyres at the show. Michelin's is a X'TA 2+ Energy 385/65 R22.5 tyre aimed at longhaul applications; it offers 2,5mm more tread than the outgoing )(TA 2s. Bridgestone's new R168 tyre is aimed at highway and regional transport applications. It's said to offer better wear characteristics.

Fleet-Tip, one of the UK's largest manufacturers of 3.5tonne GVW tipper bodies, will be exhibiting a range of bodies on four light CV chassis including a three-way tipper on the new Brernach Extreme 4x4.
