Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MANI's F2000 tractor has been a faithful servant but its time is almost over. It's being exported en masse and the incumbent TGA is in full flow on the used market. We look at one of the last F2000s off the line.

Eartier in the year MAN ERF UK revealed that it would be exporting the majority of its returning F2000s to various eastern European countries. This week's Taking Stock looks at one of the last F2000s to roll off the production line (in September 2000) which originally ran in the livery of Northumberland-based transport company Martin Oliver.

Fleet of MANs

The firm has bought MAN products for 30 years and now has a 100-plus strong fleet. It mainly consists of TGA flat-floor XXL 6x2 tractors with 410hp engines with the odd higher-powered example thrown in.

Once typical of the fleet, X714 SHH returned after a three-year contract deal, although Martin Oliver has a tendency to buy outright rather than contract hire or lease.

It's fitted with a 12-litre six-pot 410hp Euro-2 diesel engine and 16-speed Eaton box—a slap-over fitted with a splitter. The 6x2 has a midlift axle, road-friendly suspension for 44-tonne work and a full air management kit.The unit is plated at 22500kg.

X714 SHH was registered on 8 September 2000; all the servicing was done in Penrith, where Martin Oliver sources its vehicles. Independent MAN dealership Borderman Trucks in Carlisle is selling the vehicle and has slapped a 122,750 (ex-VAT) price tag on it with a three-month standard warranty. Potential buyers can have a longer deal but will have to negotiate. The price is just £250 over Cap Red Book for an average example.

Back at Borderman In a little over three years it has clocked up 442,000km. Initially it arrived back at Borderman along with seven similar vehicles last October. All were then leased out on short-term rental for TES.The others have since been sold. probably for export, but this one is still looking for a good home.

The exterior is clean but the de-liven/Mg process has left it a bit discoloured close up. The lead-up ramps, always a good sign to whether a tractor has been well treated, have been well used but they aren't bent.

There's a fixed fifth wheel and an aluminium sheet covers the chassis so the driver can stand safely behind the cab when fixing the suzie lines. There's also a large fuel tank.

It has a one-bunk long-haul cab which is clean but looks like it has seen a fair bit of action. The back wall is slightly discoloured and the driver's foot well is worn through in front of the clutch pedal. •
