Action is calling on operators to send trucks and drivers to a rally in London next Monday (22 March).

The day of action is being organised following the news that most of the hauliers who responded to the "action fax" in last week's CM said they were ready to take direct action.

Trans-Action plans a convoy round London before parking up at Park Lane, as they did in a protest last year. The organisers stress that this will be a peaceful protest; they are advising the Metropolitan Police of their plans, Nearly 70% of the hauliers who faxed CM are prepared to take action, including possible

week-long strikes and random 24hour park-ups, in a bid to stop the Government's fuel escalator from

wrecking their businesses.

About 100 hauliers from Devon to Scotland

sent in their ideas for protests. Northants haulier Joe Cook says: "We need a blockade and should copy the French. They have the balls to stand up."

Only 13% of respondents want another mass lobby of Parliament—and they say it should involve trucks as well as people. A Sunday rally of trucks and people in London and other large cities is supported by 11%.

Frank Stears of TransAction, who was left "massively disappointed" by the numbers faxing back to CM, is calling on all operators to send vehicles to Landon next Monday.

Stears' message to CM readers is simple: 'Join us if you care about Our industry."
