SOUTH Yorkshire's bus fares policy has meant that Barnsley bus station must be extended to provide extra waiting space The PTE's policy of keeping fares low has meant that an expected decline in passengers which influenced the rebuilding of the station three years ago has not taken place — and numbers of passengers have increased.
Now Yorkshire Traction must spend £15,000 on an interim extension for the terminal to make more space until a planned multi-million pound bus and rail complex is built.
As a result of the increase in numbers of passengers the bus company is having to use an annexe in a neighbouring street, but the Barnsley council is objecting.
