Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Star Works, Skinner Lane, Leeds 7.

DRESSES with capacities of 8, 20 and 60 tons are made by this company. Not the least of the advantages to be offered is complete interchangeability of parts with other of the company's products. Many of the component parts of the rams and power pumps are used in garage jacks and hydraulic body-repair equipment, and obviously this gives opportunities for an excellent after-sales service to be provided.

Units with capacities of 8 and 20 tons use the well-known Epco Flexi-Force rams and pumps. Therefore any workshop already using this jacking equipment can, by purchasing the press-frame, utilize it even further. A standard framework is utilized for these two capacities and it is fabricated from mild-steel plate.

The work table is adjustable to a maximum job depth of 20 in. and the design will accept a maximum width of 23 in. The cost of the basic press-frame is £42 10s., a standard single-speed pump costs £20 and an 8-ton ram £11. The 20-ton ram is priced at £19 and a two-speed pump at 138 2s: 6d. When purchased as a complete

standard unit both are equipped with a pair of vee-blocks.

At a capacity of 60 tons the largest unit offered is a much more sophisticated machine having a motorized work table and an optional motorized hydraulic pump. This press is fabricated from mild-steel channel and plate. The work table has a machined surface and can be raised or lowered over its full travel of 40 in. in 75 sec. It is capable of lifting a load of 3 cwt.

Hydraulic power is provided by a manually operated dual-action pump which will move the double-acting ram speedily to the job at pressures of up to 10 tons. Once this pressure is exceeded the pump automatically changes over to high pressure of up to 60 tons. The double-acting ram makes retracting with heavy dies or tools and withdrawal from work a simple proposition. When fitted with the electrically driven pump, ram travel speeds of 8.5 in. per min. at low pressure 3.5 in. per mm. at high pressure, and a retraction speed of 24 in. per min. are given. A maximum work depth of 48 in. is provided and the machine will accept work 35.5 in. long between the uprights.

Complete with motor-driven table, vee-block table and yee-blocks, test centres, a centre bush, straightening adapter and flat adapter, but manually operated, the machine costs £327. With the electrically driven hydraulic pump it costs £408.
