Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Colby Road, Winchester Road, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.

VERSATILITY is an important feature of • UCP 1 available from Unisol. As well as being suitable for floor cleaning it can be employed in degreasing tanks for parts cleaning and it will also provide a seal to the surface on which it has been applied.

The compound is supplied in crystalline form and for cleaning floors by hand or machine; the strength required will vary from 1 to 6 oz. per gal., depending on the amount and age of oil and grease deposits on the floor. There are two ways in which UCP 1 can be used—either by dissolving the necessary quantity in hot or cold water and brushing the solution over the floor, or by sprinkling the crystals directly on the floor and then brushing over with hot or cold water.

In the case of a bad floor the solution should stand for 5 to 20 min. to make subsequent cleaning easier. In extremely bad cases it is suggested that sawdust or old sacking be soaked in solution and spread over the particular section of floor so that the solvent can have an opportunity of penetrating.

This will also apply to sloping floors, and an efficient means of floor cleaning is said to be provided by keeping a bin of sawdust which has been soaked in a UCP 1 solution with a strength of 5 oz. to 1 gal. of water. Brushing this over the floor and leaving it for a few minutes before sweeping up removes oil and grease stains.

It is .claimed that UCP 1 will seal a concrete surface when it is applied at the rate of 5 oz. per gal. of water and allowed to dry; also that use of the product will improve the surface of concrete and render it impervious to the absorbtion of oil and grease. When a floor has been cleaned two or three times subsequent cleaning is made easier, as oil and grease will not be keyed to the

surface.

According to the strength used the cost of a UCP 1 and water solution will vary between 0.5d. and 2d. a gal.

When employed in parts-degreasing tanks UCP 1 must be added to hot or boiling water; for best results the solution should be maintained at between 160°F and 200°F during use.

As well as giving good results with immersion tanks equal success is claimed for spray or jet application. immersion time and solution strength required vary according to the type of component being cleaned and its condition: the strength needed varies between 5 and 6 oz. per gal. Paint, enamels and varnishes can be removed from metal and other surfaces with a slightly stronger solution.
