Vulcan Way, New Addington, Croydon, Surrey. T'WO products from the Holts range come to A mind when thinking of floor maintenance. One is Holtcrete, a rubberized paint for protecting concrete surfaces, whilst the other is Floor Cleanser -for cleaning them.
Floor 'r Cleanser is a crystal/powder material which can be used in two ways. For cold application it is sprinkled over the floor at the rate of 4 oz. per sq. yd. after all loose dirt has been brushed off. The crystals are then wetted with a watering can or fine spray and the Solution left for at least an hour to soak into the grease and oil.
Leaving the solution on the floor overnight will allow deeper penetration and after this the dirt is loosened with a brush and hosed off. Where there are heavier deposits it may be necessary to use a scraper or squeegee.
For the second method hot water is used and, depending upon the extent of the grease deposits, a solution containing between 4 and 16 oz. per gal. is recommended. This is a much quicker method, there being a faster penetration than when used cold; the solution is applied with a watering can or fine spray. After the deposit is loosened and softened it is scraped off with a squeegee or scraper and then the surface is hosed down. Trade prices of Floor Cleanser are 1 cwt., £5 55.; 28 lb., £1 14s.; 14 lb., 18s.
Holcrete is available in black, white, grey, green and red. It is fully resistant to oils and petrol and prevents cement dust as well as sealing the surface against liquid seepage. It is said to be particularly resistant to traffic wear and costs £3 4s. for one gal., or 17s. for 1 quart where this size is available.
