A WIDE range of chemical cleaning materials " is produced by this company and probably the most interesting to a vehicle operator will be Applied 5-23. This is particularly intended for repair shops, grease bays, oil stores and so on. Claims made for 5-23 are that it is economical in use (a 2 oz.-per-gal. solution costs 2d. per gal.), it is non-flammable and only mildly alkaline, and it reduces "dusting up".
Applied 5-23 will mix easily with cold or hot water; after flowing on to the floor to be cleaned it should be worked in with a broom and allowed to soak for 10 to 20 min. Grease and oil deposits are emulsified, then the surface is rinsed off with water. Alternatively, dry 5-23 can be applied to a previously wetted floor, agitated with a stiff brush before and after standing for the same time and finally flushed with water.
Floors that are heavily coated with thick deposits should have this scored or cut through with a scraper before applyinga more concentrated solution-4 to 6 oz. per gal.—worked in with a steel broom. After a reasonable soaking time has been allowed the surface should be flushed with clean water.
Other cleaning chemicals produced by Applied Chemicals include types specifically intended for various types of floor, including linoleum and timber, whilst a product called Dresser-Dry is a granular absorbent material which can be used for soaking up liquids that have been spilled, including oils and greases. This is sprinkled on the floor and left to absorb the liquid before being swept away; when oilimpregnated it is non-flammable.
Dresser-Dry can be left as a floor dressing where there are regular spillages such as around lubricating areas and pits. Another company cleaning product is 3-05, which is designed for cleaning walls and paintwork.
