Wheel balancer

OPERATIONALLY the new Repco Model 404 electronic '4.-1 wheel balancer is of particular interest because it provides for in-situ balancing in both directions of rotation, balancing weights being applied to the wheels according to the mean value of the two readings.

Static as well as dynamic balance can be checked with the machine, which is powered by a 2 h.p. series-wound motor with a speed range up to 7,000 r.p.m., or by a 4 h.p. three-phase motor, the latter being fitted if the unit is to be used for checking the wheels of heavier vehicles.

NVIH the increase in instances of vehicles being finished in polished aluminium, there is a growing need for a coating to protect such metal from the corrosive effects of the atmosphere.

For the first time in the UK such a coating has been made available. Called Bergacryl Clearcote, it is a clear acrylic lacquer made by Lewis Berger (Great Britain) Ltd. It will prevent discolouration and can be used to restore a bright surface once any oxidation has taken place; it is specifically for use on aluminium and should not be used for any other Bergacryl system.

Protective coating 'Automatic starter/charger

ANEW starter/charger, which is claimed by its makers to be the last word in automatic, fast and safe battery charging is announced by Hill Equipment Ltd.

Suitable for operation from 200-250V mains supply, the unit will charge a 60 amp./hr. (11 plate) battery up to 85 per cent in one hour. It will charge the same battery to 100 per cent (full charge) in three hours.

The charger will start any engine using 6 or 12V circuits, with or without a battery, and in normal charging conditions will handle five I 2V or ten 6V batteries at a maximum charge of 10 amp.

The unit is claimed to be unable to damage a battery or itself, the magnetic circuit breaker and a thermal switch guarding against both contingencies. A transductor controlled by a Magnetic amplifier gives the charger a constant potential characteristic that automatically protects the battery from unnecessary wear and tear.
