Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MANY workshops are inadequately equipped simply because the sum available for capital expenditure each year is almost swallowed up by that new bay in the workshop, or some new and improved lighting. Often it is unsound, economically, for the engineer to purchase much of the excellent equipment that makes for greater efficiency and comfort in the shops.

Therefore the announcement of a new rental scheme for garage 'equipment by Eurawash Ltd., of Chandlers Ford, Hants, should be of wide interest. In the past this company has concentrated mainly on vehicle washing plant, but the new scheme covers many items of equipment produced by some of the premier makers.

Among the names of manufacturers that the scheme covers are Westinghouse Brake and Signal Co. Ltd., Hill Equipment Ltd., Avery-Hardoll Ltd., Applied Power Industries Inc. (Blackhawk), Harvey Frost and Co. Ltd., H.P.C. Engineering, and V. L. Churchill and Co. Ltd.

Some examples of what can be rented are: The Westinghouse four-post vehicle lift for £1 19s. 4d. per week; a 5-ton Churchill hydraulic garage jack for 5s. 5d. per week; two pieces of equipment by Hill, a dynamometer for static testing and the Hill brake tester, for £6 6s. 8d. and £6 8s. 9d. per week respectively.

Electronic testing equipment for as little as 21s. per week and a one-ton garage enginelift for as little as 8s. 3d. per week all go to make capital go further. In addition the cost is claimable against tax.
