%WHEN Maidstone and District Motor Int Services. Ltd., and their associated company, the Chatham and District Traction Co., applied for permission to revise fares before the South Eastern Licensing Authority on Tuesday, a spokesman for the companies said that of M. and D.'s 58,506 fares, 32.799 would he raised and 4,592 would bc cut.

The proposals were that single fares be charged on a mileage basis, return fares and season tickets be revised, and that workers' weekly tickets be withdrawn.

Mr_ H. R. Herbert said that since the last award was given to the company in July, 1954, increased wages from January would cost over £100,000 a year. Other costs had also risen.

Mr. K. Kirton, traffic manager, said that at was not possible to apply a single scale throughout the area. There were three kinds of traffic: urban. interurban and rural. The fares would be cheapest in the urban areas and dearest in the rural areas.

As an economy measure, he said, a number of one-man buses would be introduced.

An application for higher fares made by Southdown Motor Services. Ltd., is due to he heard at Brighton on April 19-20. The company are asking permission to add id. to the I id. and 2d. single rates. Id. to fares up to I Id.. 2d. from lsels. lid., and then at the rate of Id. per Is. ticket value, with similar increases in returns. It is also proposed to raise the price of ordinary season tickets.

N.E.A.V.B. TO LEARN OF PLASTICS nUR1NG the annual conference of the National Employers' Association of Vehicle Builders, at Llandudno, from May 16-18, a talk and demonstration on the making of vehicle components from polyester resin and glass fibre will be given by Mr. L. F. Bull, of British Resin Products, Ltd., in conjunction with Charles H. Roe, Ltd. This will be on May 17.

A preliminary general talk on plastics will be given by Mr. D. N. Davies, of British Resin Products, Ltd. A representative of Fibreglass, Ltd., will be present to advise on available forms and properties of glass fibre.

The Association's next president, Mr. Charles Sprittles, will be installed at the annual meeting on May 19. He will succeed Mr. J. M. Reeve.
