SEEING IN THE DARK
DIFFICULTY in determining the exact size and shape of large vehicles when approaching them from the rear at night is alleviated by Scotchlite Brand Lite-A-Bumper reflective tape, which can be applied to the
rear of any vehicle. The tape, which acts as a wide-angle reflector, is manufactured by the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Adderley Park, Birmingham, and 2 ft. of 1-in.wide tape retails at 6s. 9d. Special rates are available to fleet operators who order 25-yd. rolls of tape.
Scotchlite consists of millions of spherical glass beads, which act as lenses, bonded by a flexible adhesive on to reflective sheeting. It can be stuck to any smooth surface without the use of special tools.
The tape is available only as a red reflector at present, but reflective sheet ing is also being marketed in while, yellow and silver colours. This can he applied only by approved distributors, because heat is necessary for attach ment and a vacuum applicator has to be used. When correctly applied the sheet can be moulded to any contour and is unaffected by extreme climatic conditions.
