Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MI Hauliers who regularly use the Dartford crossing have won back toll discounts from the crossing operator, although the amount is lower than before, Last week the Dartford River Crossing agreed to grant a 7.5% discount for regular users of the crossing, following a meeting with trade associations and the Department of Transport. Last May it withdrew a 10% discount for hauliers buying books of 50 and 100 pre-paid tickets when it introduced its electronic billing DART-TAG scheme to speed up traffic flow.

It said that the cost of installing the system, which entails fitting £25 electronic tags to truck windscreens, meant the discounts had to go.

Now it hopes that the re-introduction of discounts, with the option of paying by cheque or direct debit, will attract more hauliers to the scheme. So far it has received fewer than 1,000 applications from the 37,000 CVs which use the Thurrock/Dartford link every day.

0 Hauliers could face toll rises of up to 20% if the Humber Bridge Board gets parliamentary backing to index-link its rates. It needs to do this to clear its debt, which has reached £439m and is rising by £85,000 a day.
