• The traditional police job of escorting abnormal loads on motorways should be hived off to the private sector, says David Fletcher of the British Security Industries Association.
The Association of Chief Police Officers is currently considering a Thames Valley Police report on trials earlier this year in which unmarked police cars were used to escort heavy loads on the motorway (CM 20-26 February).
