Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Drivers of road tankers carrying flammable petroleum spirit no longer have to have protective fire screens in their cabs by law.

This is due to delays by the Health and Safety Commission in drafting new codes of practice covering the construction of some types of tankers.

The existing codes were scrapped as part of the revision of the dangerous goods regulations which was published on 1 June. But one section of the new regs, Schedule 2, covering petroleum spirit and carbon disulphide, has not been replaced in the new version.

The schedule covers fire screens, wiring rules and limits on the capacity of tankers. A new code will be ready in a few months.
