• Bill Mills, the Freight Transport Association's director of administration, has been awarded the MBE in the latest Queen's Birthday Honours List. The honour rewards his services to transport and comes after 36 years in the industry, 26 of them with the ETA.
Other industry awards include knighthoods for Hugh Dundas, chairman of BET since 1982, and Archibald Forster, who has been chairman and chief executive of Esso UK since 1980.
Patrick Jackson, undersecretary of the freight and bus licensing directorate at the Department of Transport, becomes a Companion of the Bath. Dr Douglas Acres, chairman of the council and executive committee of the Magistrates Association is awarded the CBE.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) director-general, Richard Warburton, has been made an OBE.
