Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Leyland Daf Bus has adopted the Advanced Turbocharged and intercooled (ATi) engine technology, currently used in its heavy truck engine range, in its latest singleand double-decker PSV rear-engined chassis. They go on sale in Europe in September and will be officially launched in Britain at the Bus and Coach Council's Coach and Bus '87 show at the NEC in October.

The new SB3000 single-deck coach chassis will be offered with a 6.01m wheelbase, giving it a fairly short rear overhang in order to satisfy UK axle loading requirements.

It will be powered by the turbocharged, 11.6 litre DKV ATi engine which develops 212kW (288hp), coupled to a ZF six-speed 6S-150-C synchromesh manual gearbox. Final drive will be via a 13tonne-capacity hypoid single reduction axle with a 3.31:1 ratio.

Gradual replacement

The ATi-equipped SB3000 will supersede the existing SB3000, launched in the UK some 18 months ago, but fitted with a non-ATi 231kW Daf engine.

The double-deck SBR3000 will be available as either a semi-integral bus underframe for bodybuilders. Alternatively the An driveline can be supplied as components for fully integral bodies.

The standard SBR3000 double deck chassis will be capable of handling bodywork up to 4m high, and will be supplied with a 5.7m wheelbase.

Power is provided by the turbocharged and chargecooled [)KZ ATi engine rated at 274kW (373hp), also fitted with the ZF manual box and a Daf 3.31:1 rear axle.

The new SBR3000 will gradually replace the existing Daf SBR2300 right-hand-drive double-deck chassis, which is powered by the old 8.25 litre Daf engine rated at 185kW.

According to Leyland Daf Bus' bus and diesel sales manager Bob McLeod, the SB3000 and SBR3000 will make their UK debuts at the NEC and delivery will begin in late 1987 to early 1988 in time for the start of next year's coaching season.

When the SBR3000 does arrive in Britain, it will give Leyland Daf Bus one of the most powerful double-deck PSV chassis on the market. The latest ATi-engined coaches will also give Leyland Daf Bus a comprehensive range of both midand rear-engined chassis.

Following the recent showing of its SB220 singledecker, rear-engined bus underframe to UK operators (CM 28 March), McCleod says that the final choice of SB220 bodywork and specification will be revealed at the Coach and Bus '87 in October.
