Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Eberspacher UK is offering tanker operators carrying temperature-sensitive products an alternative heating method to conventional steam coils, by fitting a modified version of its diesel-fired water heater normally used on luxury coaches.

The D12 12kW water heater, which can be fitted to both rigid vehicles and tank semi-trailers, draws dery from a small chassis-mounted tank. The heater operates in much the same way as a domestic hot water system, burning diesel within a water jacket/ heat exchanger. Hot water is then circulated around existing internal heating coils by a DC electric pump, which can be mounted anywhere on a vehicle.

Product temperature is controlled by a thermostat, and a digital thermometer in the cab advises the driver of any temperature changes. Similar systems are also available for demountable tanks using non-return couplings, where the heater remains with the trailer when the tractive unit is used elsewhere.

Eberspacher says its diesel water heater can be specified as original equipment or retrofitted to a conventional tank with existing steam coils. Retrofitting takes around 11 hours and costs 21,000. Eperspacher says that by having a self-contained heating unit operators no longer need to plan a route around convenient steam top-up points.
