Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A SUNDAY newspaper report that Oaf Trucks is buying shares in ERF has been hotly denied by Daf, but ERF admits that "someone" is buying its shares.

Responding to a report in last weekend's The Mail on Sunday, a Daf spokesman was adamant that it has no interest in buying ERF, the last independent lorry manufacturer in Britain. ERF agrees that Daf "probably would not be interested" but says that a recent rise in ERF's share value from 28p to 47p means that "someone is buying up shares".

All that was certain as we closed for press on Tuesday was that ERF's annual results were imminent, and they were expected to show substantial improvement over 1 981/82's £4.88m pre-tax loss.
