IN RECENT YEARS British vehicle manufacturers — Land Rover apart — have been happy to leave the fourwheel drive sector of the market to conversion specialists who cater for the requiremnts of agricultural trades, civil contractors, electricity boards and the lIke.

The light end of the market is rapidly becoming dominated by Japanese manufacturers, according to the May new vehicle sales figures from the SMMT. They have all increased their sales, especially Subaru and Suzuki who have doubled their previous sales figures for the first five months over last years' tally.

Our three converted vehicles performed extremely well, each in its own individual style, while the Land Rover 110 showed its pedigree in the way it powered around the track and over the severe waterlogged course. The Suzuki
