IF YOU work in the Midlands and have the gift of the gab, Midlands BRS and The Birmingham Post may have £1,000 and an engraved rose bowl for you. This is the first prize in a competition to find the most talented after-dinner speaker in the region. This makes a welcome change from never-ending sponsorships of sporting events and crazy stunts.
Competitors have to speak for five minutes on a subject of their choice in heats to be held in front of an invited audience in Birmingham. Winners will go to semi-finals, with a grand final at a Midlands stately home later this year.
Gerry Bullus, Midlands BRS sales manager, says: "We know from first-hand experience that there is an abundance of untapped talent." Is this a hint that he has once or twice been out-talked by potential customers?
