Pneumatic Chipping Hammer THE Thor LCH 300, a small but powerful pneumatic chipping hammer, developed by Thor Tools Ltd., has a 3 in. stroke and is claimed to deliver 2,000 blows per minute on an economical air consumption figure.

The hammer weighs a little over 3-5 lb. and is 8-75 in. long without chisel, It utilizes all chisels with a small Parker taper shank, so providing tools for cutting, punching, crimping, piercing, scraping, bush removing, riveting, hammering and flanging. Replacement Silencers T" Quinton Flazell grotto is now marketing a range of long-life, double-cased replacement silencers suitable for use with all British commercial vehicles. The range is also being further extended to provide replacements for the majority of Continental and American vehicles.

The silencers are being specially constructed with rolled-over ends, instead of using the traditional welding method.

Butterfly Valves

INTRODUCED recently into the UK is a range of valves I suitable for use on road tankers. Of light weight and available in sizes ranging from 2 in. to 14 in. bore, the valves are of the butterfly pattern. The units are capable of providing 100 per cent shut off up to pressures of about 70 p.s.i. and can be used to accommodate liquids, gases, air, and—equally well— granulates and powders.

Price: £12 (approx. for 4 in. bore unit). Dual-purpose Oil Cooler THE new temperature-controlled oil cooler made by Kenlowe Accessories and Co. Ltd., is now available for use with BMC vehicles. This unit (part number TOC/1), which is supplied complete with all necessary pipes and clips is expected to be available for fise on all makes of commercial vehicles in about three months' time.

The unit is of unconventional design; the oil is water-cooled rather than air-cooled and the heat exchanger through which the oil passes is sited in the bottom radiator hose.

This equipment serves a double purpose. On starting up the engine, as the engine coolant increases in temperature it warms up the engine oil and afterwards it makes sure that the oil temperature does not exceed that of the bottom hose (normally at a maximum of 75°C).

The cooler is made of brass and copper and is black with cadmium-plated fittings. Installation is normally easier than with the conventional oil cooler as the heat exchanger does not have to be mounted in a position subject to ram airflow effect. Fluid-control Valves PAA SECOND EDITION of the British Valve Manufacturing Association valve technical reference book is to be published early next year. Apart from an English edition of some 10,000 copies, a German edition (5,000 copies) is also to be printed for distribution to Eastern Europe and all Germanspeaking countries.

The Association is currently inviting the support of all members in the publication of this reference book; manufacturers of valves who are not members of the Association are also being invited to participate so that the book may be as comprehensive as possible. Versatile Antifreeze AMETHOD of producing an antifreeze to meet the stringent requirements imposed by the use of light alloys in vehicle engines has been developed by Borax Consolidated Ltd. Neobor (pentahydrate borax), an established corrosion inhibitor for conventional engines, is employed as the base.

The new antifreeze is called BMSL, the components being borax mercaptobenzothiazole, sodium metasilicate and lime. It is claimed to have been proved efficient and safe over extended time periods and under severe conditions. Good protection is also provided for rubber and synthetic hoses. A bulletin giving details of test results and so on is available from Borax Consolidated, free on request.
