A N extensive survey of the shortfl comings in the transhipment of goods in this country was called for this week by Mr. C. R. Bence (Lab., Dunbartonshire East) who stressed the importance of the development of mechanical handling devices.
Mr. Richard Marsh, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour, told him that the Ministry of Technology carried out and supported some research work relevant to materials handling, and transport undertakings were giving the matter great attention. But the Minister of Technology would be happy to consider, in consultation with the Minister of Transport, whether his department could be of further assistance.
