rINVY two satisfactory offers to increase liaulage rates have been received by the Mendip tipper operators committee and, at a lengthy meeting held at Shepton Mallet on Tuesday, the committee decided to implement the resolution unanimously passed at the Coleford open meeting (The Commercial Motor, June 11)—to " withdraw " vehicles from all the other quarries involved at a date to -he decided within the next week.

In the meantime, The Commercial Motor understands, at least one well-known quarry company has informed its hauliers that, should vehicles be withheld, the hauliers responsible would not be employed in the future.

(It has been pointed out by the operators that the ward "withdrawn ' is not exactly accurate. Vehicles will in fact be made available to the quarries, but at rates that the quarrymasters have intimated they will not accept.)
