• EC Transport Commissioner Neil Kinnock has formally unveiled the rises in Eurovignette tolls due to come into force from 1 January 1998. Average prices will rise by 20% over the current cost of £975.
• International driving permits will cost EA instead of £3 for the next seven years if Parliament approves a price rise proposed by Roads Minister Steven Norris.
