• Scottish TC Michael Betts cut Denny-based M & D Russell (Haulage)'s licence from 45 vehicles and three trailers to 30 vehicles and three trailers because of concern over maintenance. He granted the associated company M & D Russell (Earthmovers) a fourvehicle licence instead of the eight vehicles sought.

• Heart of England Catering Butchers of Solihull has won its bid for a new six-vehicle restricted licence despite environmental representations from the aunt and cousin of its principle director, Robert Lidgate.
Severe warning • Raymond and David Simons, trading as Central Garages, of Cardiff, received a severe warning about their maintenance standards at a Cardiff public inquiry. The brothers' vehicles had attracted six prohibition notices since December 1994.
Glasgow inquiry • Maintenance problems have led to the authorisation on the licence held by Culdaff Construction Co, of Glasgow, being cut from 37 to 32 vehicles. The company appeared at a Glasgow disciplinary inquiry before Scottish TC Michael Betts.
