• Mercedes-Benz Turk AS is producing a new eight-tonner, designated MB-800, based on the Indonesian-built MB-700. With an overall width of 2.03m and a wheelbase of 3.5m it is designed for Turkey's distribution sector which has to cope with narrow roads and congested town centres.

The front axle is now rated at 2,700kg; the Rockwell 1)120 E drive axle is a 6,500kg unit; up 1,200kg from the MB-700. Unladen weight of the chassiscab is 2,567kg, leaving 5,400kg for the body/payload.

ZF power steering is standard. Power comes from a turbocharged four-pot Mercedes engine developing 115hp (86kW) at 2,600rpm. The chassis now has 6mm side members

and is suspended by semi-elliptic springs front and rear.

Braking has been completely redesigned to include vacuumassisted ALB-type hydraulic actuation with drums all round. The cab can be tilted manually to 43°.

This year 800 units will be produced increasing to 1,800 within 12 months. The MB-800 will also be marketed in some Eastern European countries and the CIS in 1997.

E Mercedes-Benz Turk AS is the main supplier of Russia's public transport buses. It is contracted to provide 18m articulated buses and 12m units powered by 208hp (155kW) Euro-1 engines. The three-door buses have new-style bodies for 90 passengers.
