CROSVILLE and Halton District Council's transport department have objected to a private coach firm's plan for a "dial-a-ride" bus service to Widnes and Runcorn because they fear it will hit their own services.

Do bs 's Coaches of Northwich, who recently opened a depot in Widnes, have applied for a licence to the traffic commissioners to operate a door-todoor service. Under the scheme, passengers would be able to travel between any two points in the Halton area for a fixed fare.

Chairman of Dobsons, Ronald Dobson, said: "It is really a glorified taxi service, but instead of using taxis we will be using 16seater coaches. There will be a fixed fare which will be much cheaper than travelling by taxi."
