Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Attracting visitors from Poland, East Germany, North and South America, Japan and New Zealand, and with displays from Austria, Denmark; Hungary, Italy and the USA, the International Reclamation and Disposal Exhibition and Conference, currently being held in London's Olympia, fully justifies its global title.

The exhibition, which closes at $ p.m. today, was opened by Sir Keith Joseph on Monday. It contains 66 stands, the majority of which are devoted to vehicles and equipment designed for dealing with scrap and waste. For example, Purle Brothers Holdings Ltd., Rayleigh, Essex (stand 1), is supplying details of the latest addition to its fleet—an American-designed 22-ton g.v.w. Grant Gulper, costing £30,000, which is at present terminating extensive tests. Main feature of this machine is its ability to suck both liquid and solid waste, working on a "pressure over vacuum" principle allowing the introduction of air and water into the suction pipes without any resultant loss of pressure. The presence of air and water in the suction system means that thick or dusty materials can be easily loaded. At present its payload is only 6 tons, but Purie said on Monday that a possibility being considered is the marketing of the container separately on a trailer.

MuItilift Ltd., Monkmoor Road, Shrewsbury (Stand 5'7), exhibits a power compactor mounted on a BMC Laird chassis. The compactor is free standing on site. A fixed site, low speed, high torque, hydraulic motor operates the inner compacting wall which automatically returns to the back position on completion of the cycle.

Vapsco, Stockley Road, West Drayton, (stand 102), features a long wheelbase 9-ton skip-loader, known as the Vapsco 9L, mounted on 164in Albion Super Clydesdale chassis. Vapsco claims the skip-loader is able to deal with deeper and longer skips di containers than any other machine of similar rating at present made in Britain. The equipment adds 2 tons 16cwt to the vehicle weight and costs £1,800 in primer finish.

One of the latest developments by Drinkwater Services Ltd., Dudden Hill Lane, Willesden, London (Stands 151-152), is a Tr-Truck. The Tr-Truck, which is intended to remove waste from the point of creation to the point of disposal, has a petrol engine as standard, with propane gas optional. With a 24 cu.yd. capacity it is particularly useful for transferring refuse from factory floor to compactor.

The conference opened on Monday after

noon and ended on Wednesday. Papers presented included "The producer and the reclaimer" by Mr. N. F. Wright, divisional scrap officer, Rolls-Royce Ltd.. and "The reclaimer and the LME", by Mr. R. Powell, secretary of the London Metal Exchange.
