Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Once again Ford proved to be the daddy, topping the 2006 CV sales chart. With an advertising campaign promoting the Transit as the ideal tool for anyone who needs a van,Ford isn't relying on ignorance of the van market or cheap products to retain and recruit customers.

EG06 COU, a short-wheelbase, mediumrciot3.3-tonne, 2.4-litre 115hp turbo-diesel,is a reliable British-built product that is strong in most areas without setting the world alight. Our initial reaction is generally positive: robust, traditional, responsive and versatile.

So what do we expect in the forthcoming months'? Consistency, improving fuel economy, a squeaky clean service, minimal downtime and plenty of hard work will do to start with.

We took delivery of EGO6 COU before Christmas, and it has already covered 7,100 miles—mostly motorway runs between Kendal and London. All that motorway work has not enabled us to appreciate its handling and comfort, and given us a distorted view of its fuel economy. This has varied from 24.5 to 33.2mpg, reflecting a mixture of short trips on local roads and extended motorways runs — mostly running empty.

From a driver's perspective it has much to commend it: lots of storage space imaginatively created at the top of the dashboard; handily placed cup holders; decent access to the loadspace; and a strong driveline.

However, plastic items reflect off the windscreen from the gap at the bottom of that dashtop storage space, the steering wheel isn't adjustable and the cab feels too small —almost a step too far towards 'car-like-comfort'.

In the back, a 6.81m3 loadspace will take 1,458kg of payload. There's no plywood lining and we would appreciate another lashing point by the sliding door. •
