• Littlehampton-based Farplants claims to be the first UK operator to take delivery of the new Mercedes-Benz 1726 drawbar rigids.
The company has three of the prime movers on contract hire with maintenance from Newhaven-based Panda Diesels. Each of the combinations is fitted with Lawrence David curtainsided bodywork giving a 15.2m deck length with room for 14 plant containers per body. The 1726's normal wheelbase has been extended to 6.3m (from 5.9m) by Wheelbase Engineering. The Lawrence David bodies have no centre side supports and offer a side access height of 3.2m. Both prime mover and trailer are fitted with Ray Smith cantilever tail-lifts.
