ourable response to the efforts of British Railways to attract business during the present oil shortage was contained in a London businessman's letter to The Times last week.
His firm wanted to move a consignment of 50 tons of metal from London to Birmingham. British Road Services' rate was El 14s. 6d. a ton, whereas that of the railways was £5 9s. a ton. "Is it, therefore, surprising that this consignment will be moved by road at a saving of nearly £200?" he asked.
