for trolleybuses placed with British IN United Traction, Ltd., total 97 vehicles. Of this, 50 are for London Transport, 20 for the North Zealand Electricity and Tramway.Co., Ltd., Copenhagen, Denmark, and 27 for the Barcelona Tramways, of Spain.
• The double-deckers for London Transport are similiar iii most respects to the 77 trolleybuses supplied to the same operator by B.U.T. in 1948. These were the first 8-ft.-wide vehicles to be operated in the London area, the first two being put into service on the Hampton Court-Wimbledon Station route.
The B.U.T.chassis used is the 964IT with a wheelbase of 18 ft. 5 ins. A feature of the frame design lies in the use of eight tubular steel cross-members, which give exceptional rigidity to the frame structure, while serving to carry the electrical equipment. This will be made by the English
Electric Co., Ltd. Metropolitan Carnmell Weymann Motor Bodies, Ltd., is to supply the bodywork.
North Zealand Electricity and Tramway Co., Ltd., is a private company. The order is for single-deckers embracing the B.U.T. ETU 1 chassis with the wheelbase reduced from the normal 17 ft. 6 ins. to 15 ft. 7 ins. N.E.S.A. has called for certain modifications, including the removal of the electrical contactor gear from the rear of the chassis to a position outside the frame members and between the axles, and stiffer springs.
The bodies have been built in Copenhagen and the electrical equipment is by the English Electric Co., Ltd.
The first 10 of the 27 double-deckers for Barcelona Tramways were recently put into service. These are the first of their type to incorporate left-hand steering. With this exception, they are similar to the London Transport models.
