Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A TYPE of Dyson trailer which has ti -been used extensively during the war, is shown in the accompanying illustrations. Designed for loads up to 25 tons, it has a clear loading space in the well measuring 16 ft. by 17 ft. 6 ins., with a horizontal loading level of 1 ft. 11 Ins.

To assist in the loading of heavy individual items, ledges for the reception of skids are provided along each side and at the back. Long loads, such as fabricated steel work and boilers; can be accommodated as such pieces are arranged to rest on the upper portion of the frame and the staging fitted forward of the rear wheels. When a load is being carried in the well this staging is removed.

Referring to the upper platform, this is provided with removable sides and ends to permit of the carriage of certain materials associated with excavators and other machines, which may he loaded in the well. On this platform is mounted a hand-operated winch, which is employed when taking " dead " loads on board.

A feature of this Dyson trailer is the removable rear axles, hydraulic jacks being employed to lower the platform. Another point is that the wings are built up with the axles and come away with them as one assembly.

Should it be required to use the trailer in the form of a semi-trailer forming part of an articulated machine, this can readily be done as the turntable kingpin is provided with a fork to facilitate easy detachment.

As to tyre equipment, it will be seen that the wheels are four-in-line, those at the rear being equipped with 13.50in. by 20-in. tyres, and those forward having 12.0-in. by 20-in. tyres.

All the rear wheels are fitted with brakes of Girling make, with provision for both vacuum and mechanical operation. The maker is R. A. Dyson and Co., Ltd.. Grafton Street. Liverpool, 8.
