I N 1940, Mr. A. E. Whittit, formerly coachworks manager to Dennis Bros., Ltd., and works director of Strachans (Successors), Ltd., commenced a coachbuilding business on his own, trading under the name of James Whitson and Co. During the war this company was engaged in aircraft manufacture, and owing to the expansion of the business it was registered as a limited concern in 1941, when Mr. Whittit became chairman and managing director.
A new factory has now been built for the concern at Sipson Road, Sipson, West Drayton, Middlesex, and it covers a total area of 36,000 sq. ft. The works have been specially designed for commercial-vehicle bodybuilding, and the equipment includes sawmills, presses and other modern plant, including power guillotines.
At present the company is manufacturing bodies for certain leading commercial-vehicle concerns, some of them for export. Also under construction are pantechnicon beldim., and a specially designed bread-delivery van for the Weston Biscuit Co.
