TOP LEVEL changes in the management structure of the National Freight Corporation were announced this week, following talks between the Secretary of State for Transport, William Rodgers, and NFC chairman Sir Dan Pettit.

The changes, which according to a Corporation spokesman have been in the pipe-line for some time, mean that Sir Dan gives up his position as chief executive.

This job is taken over by Peter Thompson, who has been an executive vice-chairman (operations) for the past 14 months.

He will be responsible to Sir Dan and the board for policies designed to achieve the agreed trading profits of the NFC and its constituent companies.

Victor Paige, who has been executive vice-chairman (administration) since December 1975, becomes the Corporation's deputy chairman.

He will be responsible to Sir Dan for planning and future policies.

Jack Sieve completes the new appointments to the board. He is finance director of Metal Box Ltd and becomes a part-time member.

Sir Dan said: "These changes are in line with the arrangements I made when I agreed to do a second term as chairman at the end of 1975.
