THE two-speed electric dairy vehicle from Crompton was designed to operate on former diesel/petrol delivery rounds at least as effectively as the diesel/petrol did in overall journey time, but with, hopefully, greater economy.

With the F90/48 /TS model, the payload capacity has been increased to 1.554kg (30cwt) which is equivalent to 68 crates or 760 litres (167 gallons) when plastic crates are used. Top speed is 34km /h (21mph), while the range at maximum payload with no stops is 83km (52 miles).

The loading height of the 2.08m (6ft 10in) wheelbase Two, Speed is 859mm (2ft 10in).

With the Thruline range from Crompton, the design philosophy was to facilitate the carriage of non-milk goods on the round without reducing the overall efficiency of the basic purpose, ie, milk delivery. The Thruline body design is claimed to offer over 1.7cum (60cuft) of dry non-milk goods capacity. An aluminium lined goods cupboard can be supplied with provision for locating d eutectic plate.

A payload capacity ranging from 1,557 to 2109kg (30.6 to 41.4cwt), depending on battery type, is possible with the Thruline 90. The range for the Thruline, when loaded to • three-quarters of its capacity, is quoted at 45km (28 miles). The combinations available from the Thruline range are many and various, but as an example to illustrate the maximum speed. the Thruline Two Speed (HIO/TS) will reach 37km /h (23mph)_ Hydraulic brakes are specified all round with twin leading-shoe operation at the front.
