Depot Design" by John Durant (CM, January 28;). This, I believe, is the first time that the managerial discipline 'terotechnology' has been described in a responsible transport magazine.
A lot of thought has evidently been put into the layout of the Tate and Lyle Transport truck centre, to ensure that the minimum of time is lost during service and maintenance by siting the various operations for quick flow.
The article also suggests that the road transport industry has been moving towards terotechnology unknowingly, and for this we can thank the Licensing Authority, who calls for certain documentation to be kept as part of the requirements of authorisation of an 0-licence.
It is this clerical discipline which is the basis for the successful operation of terotechnology. It is therefore necessary to appoint a technical clerk to collect, tabulate and analyse the data, to enable the management function to operate. This is, as recorded in the article, 'to increase expertise in reaching decisions; on specification, design, purchasing investment, cost management, maintenance, replacement and life cycle'. H. J.
