Western BRS changes

Western British Road Services has appointed four new managers to take over its transport and rental operations.

Portsmouth branch manager is to be Brian Bolwell. who joined BRS in 1972 as a traffic operator, after seven years running his own business.

In Newport, Gwent, Trevor Fear takes over both transport and rental operations after 16 years with the Port of Bristol Authority.

Phillip Harris moves to Cardiff as branch rental manager, after returning to full-time education to take a diploma in management. He had been in industry before taking the diploma.

Southampton branch also gets a new manager, 26-year-old Mark Bedeman who takes responsibility for all the rental and transport operations in the area.

Mr Bedeman, a mathematics graduate, has spent his whole career with BRS.

West Kent Cold Storage managing director J. H. Oakley has been appointed to the board of Mitchell Cotts Transport Services Ltd.

The West Kent company is a subsidiary of Mitchell Cotts Transport Ltd. National Carriers managing director Brian Hayward pre sented £30 and a commendation to Warrington employee Peter James last week.

Mr James, policeman's son and part-time wrestler, caught a man inside the Warrington depot whilst on security duty._ An ex-paratrooper, he has already won a commendation from the local chief constable.

Peter Roe, former Pickfords Heavy Haulage midland area representative, has become commercial assistant at the Pickfords Birmingham branch.

On the passenger front, Peter Daykin has taken over as general manager of Western Welsh and Red and White. He moves to his new area from Maidstone and District and the East Kent Road Car Company where he has been traffic manager.

Mr Daykin succeeds Fred Dark in Wales.

At the same time Michael Sedgley takes over as general manager of the Southdown Motor Services company. He moves from National Travel (North West) where he is also general manager. He succeeds John Birks.

Former National Bus trainee Keith Shayshutt has been appointed as assistant to the traffic manager of Trent Motor Traction Company after completing the senior management training scheme.

National Bus group pensions officer, Tony Walker has been appointed group pensions manager. He was also recently appointed Manager of BEST (Estates) Ltd, another NBC subsidiary.

John King is the new manager of National Holidays from April 1. He will be based at the company's new headquarters in Sheffield. He moves to National Holidays from Wallace Arnold Tours.

We regret to announce the death of T. G. Boothroyd, former chief inspector of Lancashire United Transport, who died recently aged 86.

• He had served for 60 years with the company starting in 1903 as a points boy.
